12 Day Desert Tour from Tangier Itinerary

Day 1Tangier – Welcome to Morocco

Arrive in Tangier, Morocco’s northern gateway and a city shaped by many cultures. Explore the lively medina with its narrow streets, traditional shops, and local markets. Visit the historic Kasbah, offering panoramic views over the Mediterranean and Atlantic. Enjoy free time in a café or along the coast to experience Tangier’s relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.

Day 2Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, drive through the scenic Rif Mountains to Tetouan, a UNESCO-listed city with an exquisite medina. Continue to Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl,” where the vibrant blue streets, handicraft markets, and stunning mountain views make for a perfect afternoon of exploration. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and overnight in Chefchaouen.

Day 3Chefchaouen – Meknes – Fes

Depart Chefchaouen and head south to the imperial city of Meknes, exploring landmarks like Bab Mansour, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the Heri es-Souani granaries. Continue to Volubilis, the ancient Roman ruins and UNESCO World Heritage site. Arrive in Fes in the evening, and settle into your riad for an overnight stay.

Discover Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest cities, with a guided tour of key sites including the Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Attarine Madrasa, Karaouine Mosque, and the famous tanneries. Wander the medina’s vibrant streets, visit the Mellah Jewish quarter, and explore the Dar Batha Museum, immersing yourself in the city’s rich culture and history.

Day 5Fes – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga

Leave Fes and travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Azrou Cedar Forest to see Barbary macaques. Continue to Midelt, known for its mountain scenery and apple farms. In the afternoon, pass through the Ziz Valley and reach Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara Desert.

 

Day 6Merzouga – Camel Trek & Desert Camp

Explore the Merzouga area and visit a nearby Berber village to learn about local traditions. Later, enjoy a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, taking in the vast desert landscape.
