6 Day Family Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Itinerary

Day 1Marrakesh Sightseeing Tour

The journey begins in Marrakesh with a guided city tour covering the main historical and cultural landmarks. Visit the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs, admire the exterior of the Koutoubia Mosque, and explore the lively souks of the old medina. In the afternoon, enjoy free time at Jemaa el-Fna Square, where street performers, musicians, and traditional food stalls bring the heart of the city to life. Overnight in a riad or hotel in Marrakesh.

Day 2Marrakesh – High Atlas Mountains – Kasbah Amridil – Dades Valley

After breakfast, depart Marrakech and travel across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying scenic stops along the way. Continue to the Skoura Oasis to visit the well-preserved Kasbah Amridil, an excellent example of traditional Berber architecture. The route continues through the Valley of Roses before arriving in the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic landscapes and rock formations. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Dades.

Day 3Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

Today’s drive leads through the eastern landscapes of Morocco. Stop at Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls create a striking natural setting and an opportunity for a short walk. Continue through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and date palms, before reaching Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Settle into a desert-side hotel and enjoy views of the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. Overnight in Merzouga.

Day 4Merzouga Area – Nomadic Visit – Khamlia – Camel Trek & Desert Camp

This day focuses on discovering the cultural and natural surroundings of Merzouga. Visit a nomadic community to learn about traditional desert life, then continue to Khamlia village to experience authentic Gnawa music. In the late afternoon, begin a camel trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi, timed to coincide with sunset. Arrive at the desert camp for dinner, live Berber music, and an overnight stay in a tent.

Day 5Merzouga – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, depart Merzouga and make a stop at Rissani Market, one of the most traditional and vibrant souks in the region, where local products, spices, and crafts create a lively atmosphere. Continue the journey through the scenic Draa Valley, famous for its lush palm groves, ancient ksour, and traditional villages. Arrive in Ouarzazate in the afternoon, often called the gateway to the desert, and check into the hotel for the night.

Day 6Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakesh

After breakfast, depart Ouarzazate and visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most impressive fortified villages. After exploring the kasbah and enjoying panoramic views, continue the drive back to Marrakesh via the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Enjoy scenic stops along the way before arriving in Marrakesh in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of the tour.
