Private 4 Day Marrakech to Erg Chegaga Desert Tour Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech – Ksar Tamnougalte – Draa Valley – Zagora

Pick up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech early in the morning and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco, with stunning panoramic views and colorful mountain landscapes. Pass through traditional Berber villages and stop at historic kasbahs, including Tamnougalte. Continue through the palm-lined Draa Valley before arriving in Zagora. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable riad, preparing for your journey deeper into the Sahara.

Day 2Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga

After breakfast, explore Zagora and its surroundings, including the Jewish quarter of Amzerou and the lush palm groves. Continue to Tamgroute, a historic 16th-century town, to visit the ancient Quran Library and a subterranean kasbah. Travel on to Mhamid, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, and enjoy a desert picnic lunch. Arrive at Erg Chegaga in the late afternoon for a sunset camel trek across the dunes and a taste of nomadic life. Overnight in nomad-style desert tents under the stars, with traditional Berber dinner and music.

Day 3Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ksar Ait Benhaddou

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the Chegaga dunes, then depart by 4×4 via the old Paris–Dakar Rally route. Pass the natural dried Iriki Lake, and stop for lunch in Taznakht, a Berber village famous for carpets and historic trading posts. Continue to the famous Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for numerous movies. Explore the kasbah before spending the night in a hotel near Ait Benhaddou.

Day 4Ksar Ait Benhaddou – Telouet Kasbah – Marrakech

After breakfast, visit Ksar Ait Benhaddou for one final stroll before heading back across the High Atlas Mountains. Stop at the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the seat of the powerful El Glaoui family and an important stop on the caravan route from the Sahara to Marrakech. Continue your drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the afternoon and being dropped off at your hotel or riad, concluding your unforgettable 4-day desert adventure.
