Marrakech to Erg Chegaga (4 Days)

Day 1: Marrakech “ Ksar Tamnougalte “ Draa Valley “ Zagora

Your driver will pick you up from your Marrakech hotel early in the morning. The journey begins with a drive through Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in the country. This region offers magnificent views of the mountains and valleys as well as colorful landscapes. While driving, we will pass through some Berber villages. Stop at a few kasbahs, such as “Tamnougalte”. The journey continues through the palm-lined valley of the Draa river before arriving in Zagora. Dinner and overnight in a riad.

Day 2 : Zagora “ Tamgroute “ Mhamid “ Erg Chegaga

After the morning meal, we will have enough time to visit Zagora and its surroundings, especially the Jewish quarter in Amzerou and the palm groves. Afterwards, we continue our trip towards the doorway to the Sahara Desert (M’hamid). We stop in the original town of the 16th century dynasty ( Saadian), Tamegroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean Kasbah. We arrive at M’hamid afterward. Here is where the Draa valley ends. Before heading to Erg Chegaga, the lunch will be as desert as Pic Nic. We will arrive before sunset and start living some moments of the nomadic life by riding the camels and trekking through the desert with its different facets of life. Overnight in Nomad tents.

Day 3: Chegaga sand dunes “ Foum Zguid “ Taznakht “ Ksar Ait benhaddou

Breakfast is served after you have enjoyed the sunrise over the sand dunes. Then drive to Foum Zguid via the old Paris-Dakar road. Passing by the natural dried lake of Iriki, which was full of water and various types of birds 30 years ago. Lunch break in Taznakht, a Berber village and former trading post for this vast region. This small Berber village is one of the kingdom’s largest carpet production centers. Following that, we will arrive at the famous Ksar Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, which was built in the 11th century. Since 1987, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and several films have been shot there, including Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Time Bandits (1981), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), Kundun (1997), Gladiator (2000), and Alexander the Great (2004). Hotel stay for the night.

Day 4: Ksar Ait Benhaddou “ Telouet Kasbah “ Marrakech¨Day

After breakfast, we have an hour to visit Ksar Ait Benhaddou before continuing our journey across the high Atlas mountains to the Kasbah of Telout, a former route of the caravans from the Sahara to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains. It was the seat of power for the El Glaoui family, who were given political power in Morocco south of the High Atlas Mountains by King Moulay Hassan. We drive straight to Marrakesh after lunch in Telout.
